The Cabinet Committee for Public Purchase met Wednesday to discuss the purchase of rice from Myanmar, India and Thailand. Minister of Food Qamrul Islam said the Cabinet Division has approved the proposal to purchase 100,000 tons of rice from Myanmar. Ministry officials say the decision may be controversial, given the Rohingya crisis stemming from Myanmar. The proposal will be placed before the Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase on Thursday for approval at a cost of Tk366.86 crore.
