The Bangladesh embassy says the International Mother Language Day was observed on Feb 21, but before that, the foreign secretary laid the foundation stone of the first-ever Shaheed Minar on Feb 19. The Hague municipality has agreed to let Bangladesh build a permanent language monument in the city. Deputy Mayor of The Hague Rabin Baldewsingh at the foundation stone-laying ceremony said language monument is based on movement for Bangla language but this monument depicts all languages of the world. Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Belal in his remarks requested the non-resident Bangladeshis to help with the maintenance of the Shaheed Minar after construction. The embassy will host a day-long cultural event on Feb 24 marking the International Mother Language Day.
