Mahiya Akther Babli had survived an acid attack by her father when she was only seven months old, but she finally gave up on life on Wednesday, in the middle of her SSC exams. She was sharing the apartment with her classmate Asia Khatun Jaya to attend the exams. He said they had detained a person for interrogation over the girl’s suicide. The journalist, who preferred not to be named, said Babli’s deformity was caused by the acid attack she survived when she was only seven months old. Babli’s father Bakhtiar Rana did not want a girl child and threw acid on her face.
