The convict Md Siddique, 45, a security guard of Bagichartek Welfare Association, is absconding. He will have to be in jail for a week more if he does not pay the fines. Court official Shishir Halder said it is the first time a man is convicted by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court for killing animal. According to the case dossier, Siddiuqe beat the animals with an iron rod, put them in sacks and buried them alive. Raqibul Haque, chairman of People for Animal Welfare (PAW) Foundation started the case against him.
