Bangladesh gets its first hydraulic elevator dam in Chittagong


Bangladesh on Sunday got its first-ever hydraulic elevator dam in Chittagong’s Barumchara union of Anwara upazila CourtesyAgriculture Minister Dr Mohammad Abdur Razzaque virtually inaugurated the dam on Sunday from the Bangladesh Secretariat in DhakaBangladesh’s first-ever hydraulic elevator dam has been inaugurated in Chittagong. The hydraulic elevator dam has been built at the district’s Barumchara union of Anwara upazila, under a pilot project of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) to preserve surface water for irrigation. Agriculture Minister Dr Mohammad Abdur Razzaque virtually inaugurated the dam on Sunday from the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka. Among others, Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury and Agriculture Secretary Md Nasiruzzaman, were present during the inauguration program, said a press release issued in this regard. The dam is expected to help irrigate around 3,000 hectares of lands by supplying surface water reserve in six unions of the Anwara upazila, added the release.
