Bangladesh bans IPL telecast, cites ‘hurt sentiments’

Two days after the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) dropped pacer Mustafizur Rahman from its team, Bangladesh banned the telecast of Indian Premier League’s (IPL) upcoming season starting March 26 citing “hurt public sentiments”. The decision came two days after the sports and youth affairs adviser of the interim government Asif Nazrul’s request to the Ministry to ban the IPL’s telecast. KKR had picked Mr. Rahman in the December 16, 2025, auction for ₹9.20 crore, but on January 3, it announced that he had been dropped following instructions from the BCCI. Bangladesh interim government’s adviser on cultural affairs Mostafa Sarwar Farooki said KKR’s treatment of the bowler was “condemnable”. We will also look into the safety of our cricket and football teams in India in the future,” he said.
