Bangladesh Bank, which is the central bank of Bangladesh, has decided to establish a research cell to examine the efficiency of the country’s anti-money laundering mechanisms and measures to recover illegal funds. This is as per reports which added as per the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), a significant amount of money has been laundered through under and over-invoicing of import and export and has directed Bangladesh Bank to undertake the exercise in this regard. Reports citing the Bangladesh Bank further added a nine-person cell will operate under the supervision of the BFIU in this regard and the research cell will be led by an Additional Director.
