The launching date of Bangladesh’s first satellite Bangabandhu-1 has been fixed on May 10, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chair Dr Shahjahan Mahmood said. The satellite will be launched at 4pm (US time) that day, he said on Monday. Later, BTRC signed a deal involving Tk2,000 crore with Thales Alenia Space for the construction of Bangladesh’s first-ever satellite. Bangabandhu-1 will be launched into the orbital slot at 119.1 degree east longitude. The slot was bought from Russian satellite company “Intersputnik” for US$28 million in January 2015.
