Banff Centre permanently lays off 284 staff, cancels in-person classes

Only a quarter of the usual staff at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity remain on the job as the school cancels its in-person classes for the pandemic. "Banff Centre is very sorry to be saying farewell to so many dedicated staff who have built this organization over decades." The centre also cancelled performances and in-person classes, per provincial guidelines. According to a notice posted online, the centre hopes to offer some artists residences and in-person classes starting in January 2021. The Banff Centre was first established as the Banff School of Drama in 1933 and became a non-degree-granting post-secondary educational institution in 1978.
