Pew Charitable Trusts advisor and ocean conservation advocate, Bronwen Golder​, today told Parliament’s environment select committee the delays were stymying critical research. The permit processes caused “consistent frustration, disappointment and despair” and made scientific research “excruciatingly difficult”, she said in her written submission. Supplied DOC research permit delays cost Otago University PhD student Duncan Nicol an entire daisy-collection season. Another of those hit by permit delays was Otago University botany student Duncan Nicol. It’s research DOC should be encouraging and supporting.
