ALOR SETAR: Malaysia's hopes for a strong start at the Asia Team Badminton Championships were dashed after they crashed to a 2-3 defeat to Thailand. 2 Lee Chong Wei had given Malaysia a fine start in their Group C tie when he thumped Khosit Phetpradab 21-13, 21-9 in the first singles tie. "We expected Thailand to give a fight and it was really a 50-50 contest," said national men's singles head coach Datuk Misbun Sidek. "I don't blame the doubles department because we are a team and it's collective team effort that lost today. Malaysia face Myanmar next before wrapping up their group fixture against Taiwan.
