PBDS Baru justifies use of pig as party mascot, says it is a symbol of Dayak unity - Nation

SRI AMAN: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDS Baru) has chosen a pig as its mascot for the 14th General Election as it has a deep meaning in the Dayak custom, says its information chief Bobby William. He said the animal was also symbolic of the unification of the various Dayak tribes in Sarawak. Bobby was responding to criticism that the use of the pig as a mascot offended the sensitivities of certain races. He said it started with the killing of a pig, which marked the historic unification of the Dayak community in the state and ended the "ngayau" (headhunting) tradition. He expressed hope that all parties could understand and respect the customs and traditions of the Dayak ethnic group, as well as accept the selection of the pig as the party's mascot.
