BACOLOD CITY , Philippines — A jail officer in this city was killed in an ambush on Friday night. Jail Officer 1 Jayvee Jason Vargas, 28, was driving a white pickup with his father Joevy, a retired jail officer; Gian Phillip Yoro and his brother Philip Jurgen, and Femmy Tano as his passengers when they were attacked by unidentified motorcycle-riding men in Purok Katipunan, Barangay Cabug. Jayvee suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene. Yoro was wounded. Lt. Col. Ariel Pico, spokesman for the Bacolod police, said the fatality had survived an ambush in 2009.
