MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation has announced that the two shareholders of the terminated Metro Rail Transit-3 maintenance service provider Busan Universal Rail Inc. are ineligible to bid for any government projects. Various news reports noted that Busan Transportation Corp. and Edison Development and Construction submitted bids for systematic rail replacement project for MRT-3, Light Rail Transit Authority’s maintenance contract and restoration of four train sets projects for LRT-2. Technical glitches hound the MRT-3, which ferries half a million commuters daily, almost everyday. Former transport officials and BURI executives are facing plunder, graft and procurement violation charges over the allegedly anomalous P3.8 billion maintenance contract for MRT-3.
