The mechanical engineering department of the university sent a report on the autorickshaws to Bangladesh Road Transport Authority or BRTA on Tuesday. BRTA Director Md Nurul Islam told bdnews24.com they have forwarded the report to the road transport and bridges ministry. According to the BRTA director, BUET also recommended not to renew registration of the autorickshaws introduced in 2003 after these vehicles expire on Dec 31 this year. Around 7,500 of the 13,000 autorickshaws in Chittagong were registered in 2002 and expired on Dec 31 last year. They sent a letter on the issue to Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Nov 22, 2016.
