The regulatory body Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) sent letters to international internet gateway (IIG) operators and internet service providers (ISP) in this regard on Sunday. “We have received the instruction and already started implementing it,” said Internet Service Providers’ Association of Bangladesh General Secretary, Emdadul Haque. However, a number of these 58 news sites are still operating. BTRC cited security concerns for the decision but did not elaborate the reasons. Emdadul Haque said the sites would remain inaccessible until further instructions from the BTRC.
