Election-time violence causing minority community to leave country


Minority communities in Bangladesh have faceda shocking amount of violence during election periods, which has forcedmany of them to leave the country – according to members of the communities and rights activists. Expressing deep concern, they have alleged that if the situation does not improve, members of minority communities will continue to leave the country, and Bangladesh will be a country without people of many religions. Apart from Jessore, minority communities in Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Lalmonirhat came under attack before and after the 2014 election. In these areas, the Council has formed area-based committees, with youth trained to tackle violence against minority communities – especially election-related violence.
