Party Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi issued the warning at a press conference at BNP's Naya Paltan central office on Sunday. "I would like to inform our leaders and activists at all levels that they cannot join the upcoming upazila elections. We will take organizational action if any one violates our decision," Rizvi said. No BNP leaders and activists, even those who become the party's primary members, can participate in the upazila polls; punitive measures, like expulsion from the party, will be taken against them, warned Rizvi. The BNP has decided not to participate in any elections, even as independent candidates, under the Awami League government, claiming that any election under them cannot be free and fair.
