One of the letters said that on October 13, following the annoucnement of the election schedule, returning officers were called to the capital by the Election Commission for a briefing. “Just as the officers were returning to their workplaces after the briefing, they were called to the Prime Minister’s Office,” the letter said. BNP said calling returning officers to the Prime Minister’s Office was a clear violation of the Representation of the People Order and a punishable offence. It asked the Election Commission to take legal action against those involved in the act. BNP asked how the Prime Minister’s Office could issue orders to returning officers, who are Election Commission staff, after the declaration of the election schedule.
