Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself has admitted that the government is involved in the incidents of enforced disappearance in the country, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Friday. “The remarks about enforced disappearance that the prime minister made yesterday [Thursday] is her admission to the fact that they [the government] are involved in the incidents of enforced disappearance,” he told reporters in front of BNP central office in Naya Paltan, Dhaka. Addressing a parliament session on Thursday, the prime minister said enforced disappearance was a phenomenon that was prevalent not just in Bangladesh, but in many developed countries too. The prime minister further said the situation was much worse in the US. Speaking at another programme, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said by admitting that enforced disappearance is taking place in the country, the prime minister formally took responsibilities of such phenomenon.
