BJP MLA makes offensive remarks against Mayawati, triggers controversy

Ms. Sadhana Singh was referring to the infamous VVIP guest house incident in Lucknow in 1995 when Ms. Mayawati was allegedly assaulted by Samajwadi (SP) leaders, creating a long-standing bitterness between her and the SP-led by Mulayam Singh. Targeting Ms. Mayawati, Ms. Sadhana Singh said that while Draupadi [Mahabharata character] had vowed to seek revenge for her molestation, Ms. Mayawati, who “lost everything”, “gulped insults” for power and comfort. Mr. Akhilesh Yadav said the BJP MLA’s use of objectionable language against Ms. Mayawati was “reprehensible”. Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) vice-president Jayant Chaudhary said Ms. Sadhana Singh’s comments showed how they view the society. Meanwhile, the MLA in a letter has clarified that her intention was not to insult Ms. Mayawati but to remind her of the help she received from the BJP during the 1996 guest house incident.
