BBC film crew gains unprecedented access to Freemasons' lodge


The shadowy world of the Masons is due to have light shed on it in a brand new documentary. Despite being known for strange traditions, such as rolling one trouser leg up, Grand Master Mason Charles Iain Robert Wolrige Gordon of Esslemont insists nothing bizarre is going on. The Grand Lodge of Scotland's curator, Bob Cooper, says that the gesture is there so that bare skin can touch the lodge - meaning the Mason has a connection with the traditional surroundings. Freemasonry was originally based on guilds created by stonemasons in the 14th century'Members of many different faiths can meet in a Masonic Lodge. The square and compasses, trowel and plumb level, tools that every stonemason needed, are now internationally recognised insignia of the Masons.
