Sunday, July 17, 2016 BA City’s homeless: NGOs voice concernGroups that provide support for those living on the street have reported an increase in the number of portions that they have distributed. The NGO every week hands out over 600 portions of food, along with clothes, blankets and many other personal items, to homeless from many BA neighbourhoods. But many organizations claim that these figures are “unrealistic.”According to a 2015 report by the NGO Médicos del Mundo — which the Herald has seen — there are 16,753 homeless in Buenos Aires. But for experts it’s difficult to establish how many homeless people are living on the streets. In her book El robo de Buenos Aires, prestigious investigator and writer Gabriela Massuh explains that one out of four flats recently built in BA remain empty as a consequence of real-estate speculation.
