winery owner who has been in a Chinese jail for more than a year for allegedly smuggling wine into the country should not sour Canadian companies to doing business overseas, says the Canada China Business Council. Kutulakos said the council doesn’t see many cases like this, but it’s important that anyone doing business in China not take shortcuts, as the consequences of doing so are “very severe.”“Doing business in China means doing things methodically and well,” she said. She wants the Canadian government to intervene in her father’s case, arguing that her father should not have been jailed for a trade issue. “If this can happen to my parents, then is this OK for other Canadian families in the future?” Chang said. “But that opinion also holds … that Canadians also expect their government to call on the Chinese government to respect human rights,” he said.
