B.C. to create task force to address opioid crisis


The task force will be headed by provincial health officer Dr. Perry Kendall and Clayton Pecknold, director of police services. government is creating a task force — and pushing Ottawa for more help — to address the opioid crisis that has killed more than 370 people in the province in the first part of 2016. The government says the new task force will provide expert leadership and advice to the province on how to prevent and respond to overdoses. 's surging overdose rate, noting there was a 70 per cent increase in overdose deaths from January to June of this year. In addition to the task force the province plans to push for more help from federal enforcement officials to help crack down on fentanyl overdoses.
