The Awami League has nominated Abdul Hamid as its candidate for the upcoming presidential election, which is scheduled to be held on February 18. The decision was taken in the parliamentary board meeting of the ruling party on Wednesday night, Awami League General Secretary Quader told the Dhaka Tribune. Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting at Ganabhaban in Dhaka. Abdul Hamid, who is currently serving as the 20th president of Bangladesh, will complete his five-year term on April 23. On January 25, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda announced the election schedule for the presidential polls.
