EDMONTON—Albertans may breathe a sigh of relief this fire season — at least for now — as scientists predict mostly average fire-inducing weather conditions in the province from May to September. British Columbia and the Yukon will also see above-average conditions, with some pockets of southern B.C. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOWFire-inducing weather conditions generally tend be hotter, drier, and windier, according to Ellen Whitman, a scientist with Canada’s Northern Forestry Centre in Edmonton. While average weather conditions may signal some relief, it doesn’t mean there will be no fires. Scientists still recommend that people remain watchful and on high alert, especially in B.C.
