This is the norm for Covid contract tracers in Australia working for NSW Health, based in St Leonards on Sydney's leafy north shore. One of Australia's earliest contract tracers, Lockwood commenced his role in March last year when Covid case numbers were rapidly rising across the nation. The enormity of what Lockwood and his small team of colleagues were doing each day quickly became apparent for NSW Health as well as the state and federal governments. The initial team of four soon expanded to 150, and by July last year the building was swarming with more than 400 contract tracers. Lockwood estimates the tracing team have since made 350,000 calls the past 12 months - and they are often not well received.
