Travellers have been warned that roads may be closed due to the fires and the conditions on the east coast. A heatwave is causing record-breaking temperatures, and firefighters and residents in parts of New South Wales are bracing for what could be the worst day yet for bushfires. On Thursday, Nullarbor in South Australia, set the record for the hottest December day on record, with 49.9C. A severe weather warning for damaging winds was also in place along the Illawarra, Metropolitan, and Central Coast for Saturday.
