Tougher enforcement of drivers illegally running red lights in Auckland is showing some dramatic results. Nearly 9400 red-light runners were ticketed in the past six months, in what Auckland Transport called a major safety issue. Auckland Transport Auckland Transport is setting up a network of 42 cameras at intersections in the next decade. A Stuff investigation in 2018 found Auckland Transport's then-existing red light cameras had not worked for years. Sherritt said the red-light cameras were one part of the agency's Vision Zero safety programme, which included speed limit reductions on more than 700 roads from the end of June.
