Auckland pharmacies to pay $92,500 penalties for short-changing workers

Avondale Community Pharmacy is one of seven pharmacies that were investigated by the Labour Inspectorate for failing to pay staff correct wages. Seven Auckland pharmacies will have to pay $92,500 in total for unfairly deducting migrant workers' hours and not paying correct holiday pay. A Labour Inspectorate investigation found seven pharmacies, co-owned by Neeten Bhika and Kerry Oxenham failed to keep correct time and wage records, which resulted in unfair deductions of 13 workers' hours. The pharmacies involved were Avondale Community Pharmacy, Family Care 7 Day Pharmacy, Mangere Community Pharmacy, Otara Community Pharmacy, Ratanui Community Pharmacy, Takanini Community Pharmacy and Waiora Community Pharmacy. The workers would sometimes spend less than 10 hours studying or would not study at all, but still had hours deducted.
