New Zealand has a record 148 cranes at work on construction sites - more are going up in Auckland and Tauranga and they're coming down in Christchurch and Dunedin. The commercial sector saw eight new cranes and 17 removals to bring the total number of cranes to 23, down from 32. "Many Auckland hotel projects have 2021 completion dates to coincide with the America's Cup Challenge in March 2021, and the Apec economic leader's meeting in November 2021." Five cranes commenced work at the Metro Sports Centre in Christchurch, and five on the Westfield Newmarket redevelopment in Auckland.
