Sharne Robati top-scored for the Auckland Dream in their NZ WNBL 18in18 win over the Waikato Wizards. Teenage guard Arielle Williams-Mackey knocked down a game-winning three in the dying seconds to give the women’s 18in18 season a thrilling opening. The long-range trey by Williams-Mackey gave the Auckland Dream a 61-58 victory over the Waikato Wizards in the opening game of the Sal’s WNBL competition at Bruce Pulman Arena on Thursday night. But Dream head Coach Aik Ho drew up an inbounds play from which the outstanding Sharne Robati (23 points and 10 rebounds), courtesy of a Casyn Buchman assist, tied proceedings. Auckland Dream 61 (Robati 23 points/10 rebounds, Buchman 13/10/4 assists, Williams-Mackey 11 points) beat Waikato Wizards 58 (Flavell 12 points, Daysh 10/12, Parai 9 points).
