An investigation into last year’s arson attack on Santal houses in Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj has identified two policemen who deliberately set the makeshift houses on fire during a violent eviction drive. The two policemen are Gaibandha Detective Branch Sub-Inspector Mahbubur Rahman and Police Lines Constable Md Sazzad Hossain. On November 6, Gobindaganj upazila administration evicted around 600 Santals from Sahebganj-Bagda sugarcane farm area. Houses of the Santals were burnt to the ground. The eviction was carried out by police, RAB and BGB members who were assisted by Bangalis allegedly loyal to the local lawmaker.
