Sam Mackinder was busy clearing 1.55m before retiring from the competition to win the high jump. Richard Burne, whose daughter Olivia figures in more recent results, was third in the senior boys’ 1500m in 4m 4.8s. In 1975 Paul Harder earned a silver medal for St Peter’s in the senior boys’ 1500m in 4m 01.4s. J Butson, representing Boys’ High, was second in the junior boys’ 1500m in 4m 10.6s. Palmerston North Girls’ High School gained their first medal when finishing third in the junior girls’ 4x100m relay.
