Amanda Sherman doesn’t do embroidery – she’s too busy – but she’s just spent hours photographing 51 examples of the best stitching in the country. The Hāwera photographer and her friend Felicity Willis, a keen embroiderer, worked together to save the nationwide exhibition that was planned alongside the Association of New Zealand Embroiderers' Guilds biennial conference and exhibition. Stuff Choose Life by Maree Burnnand, Central Taranaki Embroiderers’ Guild (Stratford), is in the contemporary section of the Association of New Zealand Embroiderers' Guilds first ever virtual exhibition. “You have to think like a judge to take the photographs successfully,” Willis, the association’s exhibition liaison person, said. They photographed the competition entries in a crammed eight hours, plus extra time to unpack and repack all the different items.
