Society Pasila (Sila) Wilson, 61, discovered he had bowel cancer after taking part in the National Bowel Screening Programme. A man who had no symptoms of bowel cancer says an at-home screening test which picked up the disease saved his life. "They removed all the polyps, I had nine of them, but they suspected one of them may turn into [bowel] cancer. Bowel cancer is the second highest cause of cancer deaths in New Zealand. Those aged between 60 and 74 years old will be invited to take a screening test every two years.
