The Edmonton Oilers turnover continues. Both assistants had been with the team for just one season, moving in after a purge last summer that saw Jay Woodcroft, Jim Johnson and Ian Herbers replaced in Edmonton. Woodcroft took over as head coach in AHL Bakersfield, where he’s met with considerable success. As for who the new assistants will be, one of the frontrunners is former NHL defenceman Jim Playfair, who worked with Tippett in Arizona from 2011 to 2017. In addition to changing the general manager and the head coach, and two assistants, the Oilers have also parted ways with senior vice-president of hockey operations Craig MacTavish, vice-president of player personnel Duane Sutter and skills coach Paul Coffey.
