Ashe arrives Team Nigeria camp

Nigeria’s fastest man Favour Ashe arrived in the Team Nigeria camp at the Commonwealth Games Birmingham Games Village in the University of Birmingham, PUNCH Sports Extra reports. With a personal best of 9.99secs that he ran at the national trials in Benin City, Edo in June, the sprint star has been tipped for a podium finish in Birmingham following the withdrawals of top athletes from America and Canada. Since Nigeria’s participation in the Championships, no Nigerian man has climbed the podium as Commonwealth Games champion in the 100m. The closest the country has come were the string of silver medals won by the trio of Davidson Ezinwa (10.05sec in 1990), Uchenna Emedolu (10.11secs in 2002) and Olusoji Fasuba (10.11secs in 2006). His form would be crucial for Team Nigeria quest for medals in the 100m, 200m and in the 4×100m relays.
