Sections of two of the most used rural roads in the Ashburton district will be upgraded as part of a $2.3 million road overhaul contract awarded last week. The Ashburton District Council has awarded the two-year contract to HEB Construction, which will make 4.7 kilometres of Thompsons Track and 5.1km of Arundel Rakaia Gorge Rd stronger and wider. Thompsons Track would be widened from 6.5 metres to 8m seal width and Arundel Rakaia Gorge Rd would be widened from 7.5m to 8m. The third phase was a 3km section of Thompsons Track from Line Rd to Winchmore Lauriston Rd. The fourth site was a 2.7km section of Arundel Rakaia Gorge Road from Grumbells Rd.
