Ares Design, known recently for bringing back the DeTomaso Pantera, seems to think Land Rover didn’t quite get the new Defender right. Or, at least, it didn’t need to bother building one – according to the Italian coachbuilder, what Land Rover should have done is simply refine and improve the old Defender. It’s not actually new, it’s the old Land Rover unit bored out from 4.5 litres. The original steel chassis is still there though so Ares’ Defender will still be a bit of an uncomfortable ride on tarmac.
