It may be that Reform UK have peaked and an ‘understanding’ with the Tories will have to be reached to form a (very unstable, in my view) ruling majority. Just look at the Conservatives, losing high profile members to Reform UK, like snow off a dyke. In his column, Mr Maciver was careful to emphasise that it was the UK-wide opinion polls that continually indicate Reform UK is in the lead. However, opinion polls in Scotland have indicated that Reform UK could become the main opposition after the 2026 Holyrood election. With this in mind, we must recognise that Reform UK threatening to become the main opposition in Scotland is essentially a protest vote.
