Are we incapable of reading hate without succumbing to hate?

OPINION: Two weeks after the Christchurch tragedy and it feels as though there's been nothing else in the news. I would like to know my enemy, his thought patterns, how he became radicalised, and who his local accomplices are, if any. Are we incapable of reading hate without succumbing to hate? As Kipling wrote, it was the "white man's burden" to bring "civilisation" to those who didn't know they needed it.
