CAIRO -8 March 2020: Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit discussed on Monday with UN Special Envoy to Libya Jan Kubis the latest developments in Libya. He also addressed means of pushing forward the settlement track to work out a political settlement in the war-torn country. A reliable source at the Arab League general secretariat said Abul Gheit asserted during the meeting the Arab League's support to all efforts aimed at reaching an integrated settlement for the Libyan crisis until holding legislative and presidential elections set for December. He renewed the League's backing for the UN role and endeavors meant to push forward all efforts exerted at the political, security, and economic tracks in Libya. One is the internationally recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) based in the capital Tripoli in Libya’s west, while the east is controlled by an administration backed by Khalifa Haftar’s Libyan National Army (LNA).
