New Zealand King Salmon hopes a new farm in the Cook Strait, or "open ocean", will allow it to produce up to 8000 tonnes of king salmon, pictured. New Zealand King Salmon wants to set up the farm in the waters off Marlborough and eventually farm 8000 tonnes of king salmon a year in the colder waters. Thirty-three people and organisations wrote in support of the application - four of which said they had a personal link to NZ King Salmon. Japanese resident Ai Makino, who supported the application, said open ocean farming would also help importers, like themselves, become more sustainable. SUPPLIED King Salmon chief executive Grant Rosewarne says the company is working to push out more information on its application to address submitter concerns.
