Google Image Search ResultQuick Response (QR) codes might just have gotten a jolt in the arm thanks to the Apple announcement. Apple just gave everyone an active QR code reader in the camera app. Asian markets have known for decades that QR codes offer utility and potential but they never caught on over here. Shen Wei (deputy director of a research institute that specializes in QR codes) told CNN that he estimates more than $1.65 trillion of transactions in Asia used QR codes in 2016 - almost a third of all mobile payments in China. Recent data shows usage is increasing: 34% of US smartphone users have scanned a QR code - rising to 46% of tablet owners.
