The agitated workers, belonging to Alpine Knit Fabrics Ltd in Chashara's Siddhirganj, said their factory management were yet to pay them their wages for February, March and April. Despite repeated promises made by the owners, the management failed to act on them, forcing the workers to take to the streets yesterday. The factory has remained closed since the government announced a countrywide shutdown to halt the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. Md Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Narayanganj Sadar Police Station, said police had been deployed in the area where the workers were protesting. The law enforcing officials also met with the factory management, who later pledged to clear all unpaid wages by May 12, he added.
