Public servants warned over social media posts on ‘important people’


BigstockOfficials will face punitive action for social media activities, says the public administration ministryPublic servants have been instructed to refrain from posting any demeaning contents about important people of the state, institution or any profession on social media. In a circular on Thursday, the Ministry of Public Administration said that government officials will be personally liable for contents shared on their social media accounts and warned of punitive actions in line with the law. It also said that officials should refrain from uploading, commenting, liking, and sharing any post, photo, audio or video content, that tarnishes the image of the government or the state on social media. In addition, public servants have been advised to remain cautious about friend selection on social media and to avoid unnecessary tags, references or sharing. The circular also states that they should refrain from posting or sharing contents that hurt religious sentiment.
