Anti-terror bill transmitted to Palace for Duterte’s signature

MANILA, Philippines — The anti-terrorism bill signed by the leaders of both houses of Congress has been transmitted to President Rodrigo Duterte for his signature, Senate President Vicente Sotto III said. Sotto said the e-mailed copy of the bill was received by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea and the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office. In an earlier message to reporters, Sotto confirmed that the controversial measure will be submitted to Malacañang Tuesday morning for Duterte’s signature. Last week, the House of Representative passed on third and final reading the anti-terror bill after the President certified it as urgent. But Sotto, alongside Senator Panfilo Lacson, defended the bill, saying that there are “enough safeguards” in place.
