He tried to vie for a political seat in his native Migori county but did not succeed. Undeterred, he moved the battle to a new sphere, going to court to challenge the election of veteran politician Charles Likowa as the assembly speaker. The court did not, however, issue the orders sought by Aluochier to be declared speaker. It issued orders that elections for the office of the speaker should be held within 21 days of its decision. While Aluochier wanted the court to go further and declare him the speaker, Likowa, the sitting speaker, petitioned to have the decision quashed altogether and the status quo obtain.
